Tilt Your Head and A Subtle Turn / Colours Can See is Ali Katmiri's first solo exhibition.

 

It brings together paintings and photographs from a daily practice he built for himself, one in which he is both the artist and the audience.

 

Institutions choreograph the eye, teaching people where to look and what is worth looking at, and that same direction of attention disciplines what they feel.

 

The photographs use abstraction to strip those distractions away. The paintings use colour and canvas to put emotion outside the body directly, with no words and no explanation. Both reach for the seeing and the feeling that come before language.

 

The exhibition includes a workshop in which visitors take up the practice for themselves.
